Who is responsible for your information
CostaAlert is responsible for the personal information described in this notice. For a privacy request, email info@pharoahtechnology.co.uk.
Information we handle
- Account information: your email address, display name, account identifier and sign-in records.
- Road-safety activity: reports you submit, including their coordinates, category, description and time, plus your votes and report history. Published reports and display names can be visible to other users.
- Premium and payment records: plan, entitlement, activation and transaction status. Stripe handles card details; CostaAlert does not receive or store your full card number. Bitcoin payments are also recorded on a public blockchain.
- Technical information: security and service logs that may include an IP address, browser or device details, request times and error information.
Location and browser notifications
CostaAlert asks the browser for location only when you choose a location feature. Map location and nearby-alert matching happen on your device. If you publish a report, its selected coordinates are stored and shown on the public map. Nearby notifications are browser notifications while Live Feed is open; they are not background push tracking.
You can refuse or revoke location and notification permission in your browser or device settings. Place-search text is sent to the third-party geocoding service used by the map.
How and why we use information
We use information to:
- provide accounts, reports, voting, alerts, maps and Premium access;
- process payments, reconcile entitlements and provide support;
- protect users, prevent abuse, investigate faults and keep the service secure; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
Depending on the activity, we rely on performing our contract with you, your consent (for browser permissions), our legitimate interests in running a safe service, and legal obligations.
Service providers and sharing
We use suppliers including Supabase for authentication and database services, Cloudflare for hosting and security, and Stripe for card payments. Bitcoin status checks use public blockchain data. These providers process limited information for their service and may operate in other countries using their own safeguards.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, to protect people or the service, or as part of a business reorganisation. We do not sell personal information and do not use advertising trackers.
Browser storage and retention
CostaAlert uses local browser storage for your sign-in session, safety and onboarding choices, map preferences, and notification settings. Clearing site data signs you out and resets those preferences.
We retain records only for as long as needed for the purposes above. Expired road reports may remain in the database for safety history and abuse prevention. Payment, security and legal records may be kept longer where required. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your personal information, or object to certain uses. You may also withdraw consent for future processing and complain to your local data-protection authority.
Email info@pharoahtechnology.co.uk from your account address so we can verify the request. Some records may need to be kept for legal, security or fraud-prevention reasons.
Updates and contact
We may update this notice when the service changes. Material changes will be shown here with a new date. Questions about acceptable use are covered by our Terms of service.
